New Pirate Times

The Pirate Party Luxembourg @Piratepartei has started a fundraiser to help the refugees in Moria.

Two months ago fires destroyed Greece’s largest migrant camp on the island of Lesbos leaving nearly 13,000 without shelter. Gilles from @Piratepartei sent this to the PPEU Mattermost on October 26th: Hello everybody, FYI: PPLU has started an action together with the ONG Boderline Europe to help refugees in Moria (Greece). The collected funds will be used to buy warm clothes (essentially good shoes and socks) to the asylum seekers during the winter. For 30€, every donator receives a special “Coffee to help” mug and a reusable face mask. 100% of the donations will be directly forwarded to the refugees. Feel free to share or donate. https://www.piraten.lu/moria-spendenaktioun/ (English) https://www.piraten.lu/let-us-help-the-refugees-in-moria/?lang=en

The @PiratePartyUK to Close Down

On August 30th, Pirate Party UK announced their plans to hold a vote on whether or not to dissolve their Party: Dear Party members, It is with great sadness that we have reached the conclusion that PPUK has run out of steam. We hope that this will not be a permanent situation, but for the time being we think that there is not enough interest or energy to keep going and to justify collecting membership subscriptions. As a result, we will shortly be holding a ballot of all members on the simple proposal: • Pirate Party UK shall be dissolved consistent with article 7 of the constitution. The ballot will …

ECHR asks Russia to friendly settle the case with the Pirate Party of Russia

Do you remember the seemingly never-ending story of the refusal of Russia’s authorities to register the Pirate Party of Russia? It first started in March 2011, when “In a bizarre twist, the Justice Ministry has failed to distinguish between sea robbers and copyright infringers” as Moscow Times put it. Then a second refusal was received in December 2012 (Pirate Times reported) and a third followed in October 2013.  The Russian Pirate had tried to take this decision to court, but by the end of 2014 was running out of options, as all Russian courts upheld the decision of the Russian Ministry of Justice not to register the Pirates in Russia. …

Launch of New Pirate Times

We found it very unfortunate that the “Pirate Times” was discontinued in 2017 and the valuable content was lost. We took the trouble to restore over 1500 pages with the help of the “Wayback Machine” and to transfer them into the CSS of an editorial system. Unfortunately, we could not save everything, but a large part of it has been preserved and will be reworked in the course of the part. This was the work of an archive. But we want to use this new beginning to continue the idea of the “Pirate Times” as the “New Pirate Times” and hope that as many of the old editors as possible …

About Us – Pirate Times

About Us Why the Pirate Times? The pirate movement has been an international force right from the start. Today +40 countries have started their own active pirate parties. This creates a need for the interchange of information, news and tips between the parties. Although there are several opportunities to interact between countries, for example within the PPI, there has still been little exchange of information. We aim to change that by setting up an international news service for pirates. We want to inform pirates and everyone interested in pirate politics about topics that are relevant to all of us from an international perspective. Main goals. Our main goals are: More …

No Bright Future: A Cautionary Tale November 16, 2017 · by Guest Author · in Pirate Topic, Pirate Vision This is a guest post by Hugi Asgeirsson, updated from this original publication. This is a tale of the rise and fall of a progressive political party. It’s a story of optimism turned sour and of promises broken. It’s a cautionary tale of the emptiness of value-based politics. At the end, I will congratulate the Pirate movement for doing things differently, but also offer some advice on why Pirates shouldn’t count their chickens before they’ve hatched. I’ll set the scene, tell the tale and then explain why is has made me …
