Is a New Revolution Brewing in Iran?

The following is a copy of the speech by Schoresch Davoodi at the Pirate Security Conference on Feb. 15, 2026 in Munich, Germany.   Iran, Europe, and the Axis of Autocracies: Manuscript for a Lecture Introduction & Current Situation in Iran We are not witnessing an isolated protest in Iran, nor a sudden flare of anger, nor a single event that fits neatly into the old patterns of crisis. What has been unfolding since late December 2025 is something far more profound: the visible breaking open of a structural chasm that has long divided state from society. A regime that has lost every claim to legitimacy now clings to power …

The Mullah Regime’s Assault on Digital Freedom: Lessons from Iran and the Taming of Global Net Politics

By Schoresch Davoodi, Board Member of Pirate Party International, Delegate for European Policy and Member of the Foreign Policy Working Group in Pirate Party of Germany Published in Pirate Times, January 9, 2026 The protests raging across Iran since late December 2025 lay bare the Mullah-Regime’s vulnerability—and its ruthless reliance on digital repression to survive. Born from economic desperation—galloping inflation, blackouts plunging cities into darkness, and water shortages threatening survival—these demonstrations have swiftly transcended grievances, erupting into a nationwide demand for the Islamic Republic’s downfall. In Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and dozens more cities, voices rise in unison: “Death to the Dictator,” aimed squarely at Supreme Leader Khamenei. This is not …

The Taming of Net Politics: HateAid as a Cautionary Tale for Digital Freedom

By Babak Tubis The U.S. sanctions on HateAid’s leaders in December 2025 have ignited a fierce transatlantic debate. One side frames it as an attack on European digital sovereignty and the fight against online hate, while the other celebrates it as a blow against “state‑sponsored censorship.” Both narratives, however, miss the deeper structural problem which has been emerging for years: HateAid has become a textbook example of the “gezähmte Netzpolitik” — the taming of internet politics — where independent, pluralistic activism is gradually replaced by conformist, institutionally dependent structures. This is evidenced by its state funding and privileged role as a Trusted Flagger under the Digital Services Act (DSA). Its …

The Russian Information War – How the Ukraine Question Also Affects the Middle East and Africa

In Europe and also in North America, Russia is losing the information war to influence public opinion, except for a few actors who are ideologically firmly on Russia’s side, such as parts of the AfD and the Left, but also the SPD in Germany.[1] Meanwhile, the German “peace movement”[2] is also divided along generational lines on this issue.[3] In Europe, therefore, it looks bad for the time being that Russian propaganda can catch on. However, the situation is different in other parts of the world. In India, for example, Russia is winning the information war.[4] On the African continent and in the Middle East, on the other hand, Moscow’s propaganda …

#Pirates4Ukraine: An International Pirate Campaign to support Ukrainian Refugees

Pirate Parties International in collaboration with various PPI members are pleased to announce the official start of the ‘Pirates 4 Ukraine’ campaign. Pirates all over the world are devastated and angered by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the resulting humanitarian disaster, and the violence and repression towards both Ukrainians and anti-war activists in Russia. One of our brave colleagues and Chair of the Pirate Party of Norway, Svein Mork Dahl, is spending time at the Polish-Ukrainian border delivering aid to those who need it. This aid comes in a number of forms, be it food, housing, transportation, information and anything you might think of as being necessary for everyday survival. …

Joint statement by European Pirates and Pirate Parties International on Putin’s aggression against Ukraine

The Pirates of Europe and the world strongly condemn the actions taken by Vladimir Putin. It’s with deep sorrow that we watch the events in Ukraine unfold, and our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, those suffering the consequences of this conflict, and those opposing the war inside of Russia. We hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to this conflict, and for the immediate end of all hostilities in the region. It is inherent for the Pirate movement to oppose war. Violence, and the motives behind them, are contrary to the ideals of freedom, democracy, cooperation, and the respect for human rights, which should be the foundations of …

Germany’s Isolation Due to Irresponsible Foreign And Security Policy

By Alex Kohler, Pirate Party Germany Germany’s goal in its foreign and security policy should primarily be to promote cooperation in this area in Europe and to pursue common European security interests. This also means showing consideration for its EU partners. The SPD and the SPD-led Foreign Ministry in particular propagate a common European foreign policy, but the exact opposite is being done here. As in other areas where resilience is required [1], such as disaster control or pandemic preparedness, the state is expected to recognize dangers early, act with foresight, and coordinate countermeasures with partners. Active division of the EU One example of how the German side is actively …

Ukraine Conflict: We Cannot Afford to Remain Neutral

What is at stake? For a little over two weeks, there have been increasing reports of Russian troops deploying along the borders with Ukraine, the so-called “people’s republics” of the “separatists” in eastern Ukraine and in Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow. Videos on social media show deployments of battle tanks, armoured artillery, and engineer tanks on platoons and columns of infantry fighting vehicles, troop carriers, and field artillery. Other videos show combat helicopters, anti-aircraft systems, and logistical equipment such as tanker trucks and mobile hospitals. Although the date and location of the footage cannot be proven beyond doubt in every case, the images as a whole speak a clear …
