The Norwegian Pirates are against censorship. Recently the Norwegian court ordered that Norwegian ISPs have to block seven file-sharing sites within two weeks. The sites that will be censored are The Pirate Bay, Extratorrent, Viooz, Primewire, Swefilmer, DreamfilmHD and Movie4k. This is something the Norwegian Pirates reacted harshly to and called “creeping censorship”.

When the government started with “creeping censorship” the Norwegian Pirates decided to act in order to maintain a free internet. They set up their own DNS service with detailed descriptions on how to configure it for all systems (PC, Mac and Linux). Their service makes use of OpenNic‘s network of nameservices and will therefore enable access to top-domains you can’t normally access (e.g. .geek .bbs .pirate .bit .coin .lib)
