New Zealand’s Election Results | PirateTimes

New Zealand’s Election Results September 21, 2014 · by Andrew Reitemeyer · in Election For many in New Zealand and overseas the Internet Party was the “stand-in” for the ailing Pirate Party of New Zealand. It shared many policies with the international Pirate Movement in the areas of human rights, whistle-blower protection, net politics, copyright reform, privacy, transparency, surveillance and others. Early in the campaign, with its alliance partner Mana, they were polling well at 3–4% and were expected to get several MPs in Parliament. In the end they only achieved slightly more than 1% and no representatives. For an overview of the political environment in New Zealand take a …

PPCZ Might Still Get an MEP in EU Parliament | PirateTimes

PPCZ Might Still Get an MEP in EU Parliament June 8, 2014 · by Josef Ohlsson Collentine · in Election The Czech Pirates and the Czech Green party feel that the election treshold was unjust and are challenging the 5% treshold by filing a complaint to the Supreme Administrative Court (NSS). The two parties argue that there is no justifiable reason for implementing a 5% hurdle for the European Parliament since, the European Parliament does not need to create a majority in the same way a national parliament does. The arguments brought forward in the complaint are mainly based on the recent decisions of the German Federal Constitutional Court that …

Iceland Election Results A Nail-Biting Finish | PirateTimes

Iceland Election Results A Nail-Biting Finish June 3, 2014 · by Andrew Reitemeyer · in Election In an election result, reminiscent of last year’s national elections, the Pirate Party of Iceland saw a new representative enter the municipal council of Reykjavik by a narrow margin. The result is more important than one might think in Iceland, since the Pirates are very good at being representatives, using wasa2il and not just pushing a party line. They expected more seats but as Helgi told us in our last article about these elections: the Pirate demographic overlaps, to some extent, with the non-voter demographic. The Pirates contested seats in three other areas of Iceland: …
